Another year gone and what a year 2020 has been. Who knew? Well, we all do and so we’re not going to entertain a single thought about that. Hey, it’s Christmas! Did I ever tell you that one of the songs which get’s played constantly (in the U.K. at least) at this time of year was performed by Roy Wood of the 1970’s group Wizzard, the title: “I wish it could be Christmas everyday”. Look it up if you want. In the early eighties I met Roy Wood and his wife in a pub. When I say “met” it wasn’t pre-arranged, as though I’m his mate and he fancied a pint with me. No, he was at the bar and we just began talking. I sat and chatted with them for a while and he even bought me another pint. I’m fairly certain that if Sam (my wife) hears that one more time she’ll ram a Christmas tree where the sun doesn’t shine.
Traditionally, apart from all the other festive activities such as having Christmas trees rammed where it hurts, I look through my Street Photography from the year and select twelve of my favourite images. It appears, as I look through the previous “Twelve” blog posts, I open with a shot that’s not always Street related before getting on with the serious business. This year I’ve chosen a shot taken of my dad, a portrait of sorts. It’s candid, made with a Street mindset and so I’ve decided to choose it. Slim pickings this year for obvious reasons and although there’s less to choose from it’s not any easier. Actually it becomes trickier each year that passes and curation is increasingly absolute torture for me. I’m not one to brag, I don’t actively look for attention, I’m not a huge fan of my own work. The act of choosing twelve photographs and proclaiming them the “best” is about as far away as I can get as a person or for that matter a photographer. After that preamble and procrastination here they are, on another day I strongly suspect the “Twelve” selected would have been different entirely. They’re all in black & white, no specific reason for that.
As always my sincere thanks go to anyone taking the time to read this blog.
