It’s that time of year again…Ho, Ho, Ho! ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ the hit by the 70’s group Wizzard is playing continuously. As a side note I once shared a couple of pints with Roy Wood (the lead singer of Wizzard) and his wife in a pub near Ascot. Yes, that’s me, friend of the stars ;-) Now, please don’t take too much notice of that shot above, it’s not Louis’ annual bath time, oh no, that happens at least twice per day…Bah Humbug. I only placed it there because it’s how things work with my website provider, a kind of place marker, more importantly a friend of mine said that it reminded him of the kind favoured by The Magnum Photos Agency no less! Of course have a look at that link to Magnum and then get back here to the real world. I digress. It’s usually around this time that I reflect on my photographic output over the year. Last year I posted my Twelve favourites from 2017, actually I optimistically called them ‘my best’, I feel favourites is a better choice of wording. Similar to last year I’m only picking from those presented via The Leica Biker Blog and only Street/Life Photography has been considered for inclusion. It’s far too personal if I include Weddings, Portraits and my own family photographs and after all, this blog is essentially about Street/Life Photography and my quest to improve upon that genre. So, here goes with my favourites from 2018. They’re all simple shots, anyone with a camera could have taken them. I’ve picked these photographs because primarily I enjoyed the process of making them and secondly they’re very simple, not one of them took more than a couple of minutes to process in Lightroom. When that happens you know you have a half reasonable shot and managed to get it right in camera, which is extremely satisfying. Anyway, off we go;
If you subscribe to this blog then you’ll know that quite often a post will be dedicated to images quite different from these. On another day perhaps I’d have chosen twelve different shots to represent 2018, ones with gestures, more close up work and now I look at these they are all slightly formulaic, but I did begin with the caveat that they’re very simple photos and that’s very possibly the kind of photographer I am.
As always my sincere thanks go to anyone taking the time to read this blog, your support is hugely appreciated. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a Very Merry Christmas and hope that you enjoy a Healthy, Happy New Year. Here’s to 2019, I hope it brings more wonderful moments doing the thing I love, making photographs….should be a wonderful year, apart from ‘Bloody Brexit” of course ;-)
All images can be opened by clicking on the thumbnails and are taken using a Leica M with Summicron 35mm Lens fitted.
