A really short post, more of an exercise for myself than anything else. A lesson learnt perhaps.
In my last blog post titled “Street Life” I was waxing lyrical about what a great session I had in in Bristol. Everything seemed right with the world and Street Photography, it was all in alignment. I mentioned that the very next day I went into Bath and things didn’t appear quite so rosey.
Whenever I arrive home after a shoot, Street, Wedding or Portrait, I immediately upload the SD card to my computer. I want to see what I got, did I achieve what I set out to capture. Would those Layers work out the way I’d hoped, was the light as good as I thought…etc, etc.
The Bath SD sat in the camera for quite a few days. I felt no urgency to upload it, I simply didn’t get the sense that I’d got anything whatsoever of any interest. If you’re a Street Photographer you’re conditioned to 99% failure, we’ve discussed this before. Eventually I gave in and the photos contained in this post are from that card.
As it turns out this trip to Bath wasn’t such a failure after all. My mind was set on Layers, that was my goal and for the most part, as I hope is evident from the shots above, I managed it. I’m actually quite pleased with a couple of the photos.
It’s such a difficult discipline of photography this Street malarkey. The chaos has to be put in order, a frame has to be filled, the people or actors need to play their part, the whole scene has to be tamed and captured. I have other shots I could include here, but I don’t wish to bore you or get carried away and I did promise that it would be a really short post. I’ll leave you with two shots that show the very different sides of Bath. The modern day and the historical Georgian side. All cities have that Juxtaposition between old and new, rich and poor. A lady waiting for her carpet to be delivered at a block of flats and a gentleman waiting on the steps near the Royal Crescent
Next week we’re off to Paris for a few days. I’ve decided that I won’t repeat our recent visit to Rome, no forced marches for the children because I want to capture some Street for a start with. That really annoys my wife. No, it’s a family break and I’ll simply document that. Three weeks later and i’m having a belated trip to Las Vegas, it’s been almost two years and it’s here I’m hoping to add to my Project, concentrate on some Street photography.
As always my sincere thanks go to anyone taking the time to read this blog.
